Web13 Nov 2024 · Location: SW B.C. If there's one thing I detest on an otherwise nicely built rod, it's a thick layer of bullet-proof epoxy blobbed onto wraps. I thin my spar varnish at least 25% with mineral spirits (real spar varnish, not water based) and warm it, and brush it on thinly. It is self-leveling and so thin as to not sag.
