Then, blue Sharpie on each fret and level until I see the sharpie gone on every fret top. Crown with a crowning file, then sand with a stick using 400 and 600 grit. Then on to polishing - I use the micro mesh pads on a taped-up fretboard.

Webb31 aug. 2024 · Having made sure that all the frets are now properly seated against the fretboard I’d string it up and see what happened in used. What matters is how far displaced adjacent frets are (see edit) so all might yet be fine, but otherwise fret levelling and recrowning is easy enough once you’ve done the necessary research. Edit. Particularly 1st (F), 2nd (F#) and 3rd (G) positions. the difference is striking when compared to the open E, which rings for days.

I like painter’s tape because it’s more durable than standard masking tape. Using a fret crowning file you’ll need to recrown any frets you had to reseat. When you level frets you almost always have to recrown and polish frets. Its time consuming work and isnt cheap.
