I guess I would use the cover for long term storage, but don't think it would really be necessary. I can assume that environmental factors and time would cause this number to rise slightly with the P-mags more than the aluminum mags. If you can, I would remove the spring and compare it against a new spring to see how much 'set' it has taken. Giving up 1 or 2 rounds simply takes away from the user’s capabilities and with an in-spec rifle, you should not have issues.
